Crufts 1933

Crufts is named after its founder - Charles Cruft. He took employment with a Mr. James Spratt who had set up a new venture in Holborn, London, selling 'dog cakes'.

Charles Cruft was ambitious; and a relatively short apprenticeship as an office boy led to a promotion to travelling salesman.

His employment with Spratts saw him travelling to Europe and there, in 1878, met French dog breeders who invited him to organise the promotion of the canine section of the Paris Exhibition.

He was still just two years out of college!

Back in England in 1886 he took up the management of the Allied Terrier Club Show at the Royal Aquarium, Westminster. It was in 1891 that the first Cruft's show was booked into the Royal Agricultural Hall in Islington and it has evolved and grown ever since.

Judging - Crufts &circa;1936

The Samoyed Association was formed at Crufts 19 years later - in 1920 - through the amalgamation of the "Samoyed Club" and the "Ladies’ Samoyed Association", which were then later joined by the "Siberian Club" in 1930.

For over a century, The Samoyed Association has been dedicated to the welfare, preservation, and enjoyment of this wonderful breed.

The Samoyed Association is made up from a passionate community of owners, breeders, aficionados and enthusiasts, and we are proud to have a dedicated team of committee members who are always ready to provide guidance and support.

Our membership is open to all Samoyed lovers - not just breeders and show enthusiasts, and offers several benefits and advantages. And at a maximum of just £10.00 per year (for our overseas members) - the equivalent of less than 3 pence per day, or 2 pints of beer per year - you've everything to gain and nothing to loose!

We proudly host up to four shows a year, and once again will be present at "the greatest dog event in the World" - Crufts, being held at the NEC Birmingham from the 6th - 9th March 2025.

Our next show will be held at the West of England Ladies Kennel Society on the 27th April 2025, and we have 2 further shows organised later in the year.

Come along and meet us!!

The Samoyed Association Rescue is an integral part of the Samoyed Association. It is run by dedicated committee members and fully supported by the Association.

Our rescue officers and helpers donate their time freely and are all volunteers. They're only able to offer the care, support, and rescue services as a direct result of memberships, sales of our book "The Samoyed" alongside Christmas cards, calendars and other small merchandise offerings, and kind donations from others who care.

All proceeds go towards helping us help those in need.
